Brian Brown - Head Coach email
Coach Brown has twenty
years of experience working with exceptional
swimmers. He has guided swimmers of all ages to success as age
group, high school, collegiate and post-graduate athletes. In
recent years, Coach Brown has developed multiple National Record
Holders, National and Junior National Champions, National Youth
Team members and nearly a dozen first-time Olympic Trials
qualifiers. Between 2004 and 2010 he placed seven swimmers on
the USA National Youth Team.
Coach Brown was the
Founder and Head Coach of Hydro Swim Team in New York City where he
produced two Senior National Consolation Finalists and one Junior
National Finalist. From 2002 to 2010 Coach Brown led the AGUA Swim
Team in Manhattan. During his tenure the AGUA program became
nationally-recognized as one of the Top-10 age group programs in
the country. His team was the Junior National Runner-Up (2009)
and Eastern Sectional Team Champion three times during his tenure
(2009, 2006, 2004). Prior to his eight years at AGUA, Coach Brown
was the Head Coach of the Scarlet Aquatic Club in Piscataway, NJ
where his team won two Sectional Team titles (2002).
Coach Brown was honored in 2011 as USA
Swimming's Developmental Coach of the Year. He was the Head
Coach of the National Select Camp in 2009 and served as an
Assistant Coach in 2002. In 2009 Coach Brown was also
named to the coaching staff of two National Youth Teams that
traveled to World Cup meets in Stockholm and Berlin, as well as an
international competition in Vancouver, BC. In September
of 2009 Coach Brown gave two talks at the American Swim Coaches
Association (ASCA) World Clinic. He has also had articles on
his technique and training ideas published in Swimming World,
American Swimming, and ASCA magazines.
Coach Brown graduated
from Columbia University in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in
English. He was a member of the varsity swim team at Columbia
and grew up swimming in Connecticut. His philosophy for
success in swimming and life is "Work
Works".

Coach Rachel has been
working with FAST's Bronze group at the Janet Evans Swim Complex
since June 2011. She swam for Coach Annette and Coach David
throughout high school and is, therefore, no stranger to the FAST
program. She was her high school league's champion in the 50
Butterfly and consistently placed among the league's top eight in
the 100 Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley events. Prior to
joining the FAST coaching staff, Rachel coached for one
year at the East Lake Eagle Rays in Yorba Linda, the team where she
began her swimming career at age 11. Rachel credits her first
coach, Bill Peery, with shaping her approach to coaching. When
working with her young swimmers, she emphasizes the importance of
proper stroke mechanics and the establishment of good
habits.
Rachel is currently
pursuing her Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal
State-Fullerton. After completing her undergraduate work, she
aspires to earn a Master's Degree in Biotechnology.

Coach Richard has been
working with the Senior group at FAST for seven years. He grew up
in the FAST program, swimming on the team from the age of ten. He
earned a scholarship to swim at the University of California-Santa
Barbara where he competed for two years, specializing in the
Breaststroke, Butterfly and Individual Medley events. Richard was
the Head Coach at Gahr High School for two years while also working
alongside his former coach Kevin Perry here at FAST. One of the
most valuable lessons that Richard learned from Coach Perry is
the importance of coach-athlete communication. Richard also cites
Jon Urbanchek and Phil Jackson as major coaching
influences.
In 2009, Richard earned
his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Long Beach City
College. In addition to coaching at FAST, he works for the City of
Long Beach as a lifeguard, dive boat rescue swimmer, and
firefighter.

Coach Kyle is in his
fourth year as a coach with the FAST Swim Team. He
coached the Pre-Competitive groups at the Janet Evans Swim
Complex for one year and began his current position with the
Silver and Gold groups in June 2008. Kyle swam for FAST from
the age of ten and achieved great success in high school as the
2003 CIF Champion in the 100 Breaststroke. He earned a full
scholarship to Cal State-Bakersfield where his team won the NCAA
Division II Championship in 2004. Individually, Kyle earned
seven NCAA All-American awards in the Breaststroke and Individual
Medley events.
Kyle credits the late
Kevin Perry, his coach throughout high school, with motivating him
to swim at the collegiate level. He seeks to guide all of his
swimmers similarly and impart to them the value of the college
opportunity. Kyle also notes his college coach, Bob Steele, as
a great teacher and motivator who informs his own coaching
today.
Kyle studied Computer
Science at Cal State-Bakersfield and recently returned to Fullerton
College where he is studying Engineering.

Coach Lauren joined the
FAST coaching staff in September 2012 assisting with the Bronze and
Gold groups. She has 15 years of experience teaching and coaching
a wide range of levels, from infants to adults. Lauren coached
14 & Under swimmers in New York City for three years at the
Manhattan Makos and the AGUA Swim Team. During college, she led the
Columbia Masters Swim Team for two years.
Lauren competed in the
400 Freestyle and 800 Freestyle at the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympics
Trials. She is a three-time USA Swimming National Finalist in
distance freestyle events (1,650 Freestyle and 10K Open Water).
Lauren grew up swimming at the Eastern Express Swim Team in New
Jersey and swam collegiately at Columbia University. She was the
2004 Ivy Leage Champion in the 1000-yard Freestyle and a nine-time
Ivy League Finalist in the 200, 500, 1,000, and 1650-yard
Freestyles.
Lauren is a 2007 graduate
of Columbia University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in
Political Science.

Coach David joined the FAST staff in 2006 as the Head Developmental
Coach, a position which he held for two years. He has led
FAST's Gold group since 2008. After a brief stint on the East
Coast, David grew up training at the Santa Barbara Swim Club (SBSC)
here in California. He competed at the collegiate level for two
years with Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. He returned to the team for
three years as an assistant coach.
David's most significant coaching influence has been Ira Klein, his
longtime coach at SBSC. After completing his own swimming career,
David had the privilege of working alongside Coach Klein as an
assistant coach. He has since emphasized the importance of doing
things correctly, from the basics of stroke technique to complex
race plans and everything in between.
David earned his Associates Degree from Fullerton College in 2009
and recieved his Bachelors Degree in Communication from the
University of Phoenix in 2012.

Coach Wes is an
ASCA Level 5 Coach with over 20 years of experience nationwide with
swimmers of all ages and abilities. He has been the head
coach for age group programs in Wisconsin, Indiana, South
Carolina, and Ohio and directed several swim camps for 14 and under
swimmers including the Southeastern LSC Zone Distance Camp and
summer camps at Auburn University and Butler University. In
2000, the year that his team won the USAS Junior National
Championships, Coach Wes was also on the staff of USA
Swimming's National Select Camp at the Olympic Training
Center. He has an excellent track record of developing
beginners who go on to achieve success at the high school,
national, and collegiate levels.

Coach Nancy has been at
FAST's Yorba Linda facility since July 2011 where she leads
all team groups, from Pre-Competitive to Gold. Prior to joining
FAST, Nancy coached 10 & Unders at the Swim Team of Placentia
for 14 years. For 12 of those years she also coached high school
swim teams at the Esperanza High School (7 years) and the Valencia
High School (5 years). This coaching background has given Nancy a
variety of great experience with swimmers of different ages and
abilities. Nancy swam competitively herself for 8 years, while also
playing water polo.
Nancy has a Business
Administration degree from Cal Polytechnic-Pomona where she also
completed a minor in Management and Human Resources. She
worked for Kraft Foods for 8 years before making coaching her
primary focus.

Coach Lauren is the
Head Developmental Coach at our Fullerton site. She has been
coaching the Bronze group at FAST since 2007 and in 2012 starting
working with the Silver group as well. Her own swimming
career began at the age of 9 at the late Industry Hills Aquatic
Club before she swam for two years at nearby Brea Aquatics. Lauren
was a Junior National qualifier in high school specializing in the
Breaststrokes, Individual Medleys and 200 Butterfly. She went on to
swim on scholarship at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
At Drury, Lauren was a member of two NCAA Division II championship
teams, both of which placed second. Lauren credits Jeri Marshburn,
her coach at Brea Aquatics, and her college coach, Brian Reynolds,
with inspiring her to be a coach.
Lauren graduated from
Drury University in 2006 with a joint Bachelors Degree in
Psychology and Criminal Justice and a minor in Global
Studies.
