2007 - JUNIOR LIFEGUARD 'GUARD START' PROGRAM

The American Red Cross 'Guard Start' Program is available for youth ages 11 to 14 years old who have the desire to learn about the responsibilities and duties of a lifeguard. This program will help build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills to become a future lifeguard.

Instruction will include prevention, fitness, response, leadership, professionalism and swimming skill development. 'Guard Start' is NOT a lifeguard training class . The goal of our program is to provide the youth of our community with a sound aquatic background and acquaint them with the opportunities and rewards of being a lifeguard.

July 9th - July 27th (3 weeks)

Tuition: $150.00

2007 - SWIM INSTRUCTOR AIDE PROGRAM

The purpose of the Swim Instructor Aide program is to provide training for individuals who desire to learn the skills of swim instruction for children. This course will help you perfect your swimming strokes and become a knowledgeable swim instructor aide.

In addition to the training course, students will serve as an Instructor Aide for one two-week summer swim lesson sessions run from at the Janet Evans Swim Complex. Morning sessions are held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and afternoon sessions run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Each student will receive Basic Water Rescue Certification, and a verification letter of community service volunteer hours. Tuition: $45.00 per student.

Prerequisite: Individuals who are 13 years or older who exhibit a strong sense of maturity and responsibility. Additionally, students must be able to demonstrate all skills listed as completion requirements for level #8 of the SwimAmerica lesson program. Student volunteers must wear a solid red one-piece swimsuit or swim trunks and bring a nutritious snack and lunch daily.
